Fact Check: Video Does NOT Show Ted Cruz Exposing New Facts About January 6 Unrelated Vid

Does a video showing clips of Sen. Ted Cruz at two separate legislative meetings prove that he exposed new facts about the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021? No, that's not true: The video, which has been posted with an unrelated description, does not show the Texas Republican talking about January 6 at all.

The claim appeared in a Facebook post on July 26, 2022, that includes a video of two clips of Cruz at separate legislative meetings. The caption of the post reads:

Nancy Pelosi 𝐒𝐢𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐝 as Ted Cruz𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐒 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 That Have Come Out on Jan. 6

This is what the post looked like on Facebook at the time of writing:

Cruz does not mention January 6 anywhere in the video, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was nowhere in sight. Lead Stories could not identify the first clip used in the video. However, the second clip showed footage of Cruz on October 13, 2020, during the second day of the Supreme Court nomination hearings for then-Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett. Matching clips of the hearing can be found here and here: They were taken from different angles than the Facebook clip but show the same content. The hearing preceded the January 6 attack by a few months.

Lead Stories previously debunked a similar video of Cruz. That fact check can be found here.
