Fact Check: Mel Gibson Did NOT Make Social Media Post About 'The End' Of Israel Fake Post

Did Mel Gibson make a statement on Facebook about "the end" of Israel, saying, "soon the end and they know it, that's why they want to destroy everything in the way"? No, that's not true: Gibson's agent confirmed to Lead Stories that the actor and director did not make the post. Gibson's agent also confirmed that the actor does not have any social media accounts under his own name.

The claim originated in a post shared to Instagram on November 5, 2023, (archived here) that appeared to show a screengrab of a Gibson post shared "yesterday at 18:39." It read:

soon the end and they know it, that's why they want to destroy everything in the way

Below is how the post appeared at the time of this writing:

The post included an apparent variation of the Israeli flag with an hourglass image superimposed to suggest that time was running out.

Alan Nierob, Gibson's agent, confirmed to Lead Stories in an email received November 6, 2023, that the actor did not make the post in question. Furthermore, Gibson does not have public-facing social media accounts, Nierob added.

Lead Stories has debunked other claims related to the 2023 Hamas-Israel conflict, which can be read here.
