Fact Check: Account Activity Does NOT Reflect That Viral List Of Businesses, Celebrities 'Stopped Posting On Twitter' Still Active

Have Visa, Etsy, Adobe, Android, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Mastercard, McDonald's, CVS Pharmacy, Home Depot and Walmart all stopped posting on Twitter, now called X? No, that's not true: There is no indication that the accounts named in this list have, in a coordinated fashion, stopped posting on the social media platform. Some of the accounts have not been very active in quite some time, but there does not appear to be a pattern suggesting these big brand and celebrity accounts all suddenly stopped posting at the same time.

The claim appeared in a post (archived here) on Threads on November 10, 2024. It was captioned:

Visa stopped posting on Twitter.
Etsy stopped posting on Twitter.
Adobe stopped posting on Twitter.
Android stopped posting on Twitter.
Lady Gaga stopped posting on Twitter.
Taylor Swift stopped posting on Twitter.
Mastercard stopped posting on Twitter.
McDonald's stopped posting on Twitter.
CVS Pharmacy stopped posting on Twitter.
The Home Depot stopped posting on Twitter.
Walmart stopped posting on Twitter.
And so did I. ❤️

This is how the post appeared at the time of writing:

Lead Stories reviewed the 11 X accounts named in this post beginning at 10:15 a.m. EST, on November 15, 2024. Eight of these accounts had activity in the five days since this post was made on Threads. The composite image below (will open larger in a new window) shows the first post at the top of each account's timeline at the time of writing, not including pinned posts, which may be older. Additionally many accounts had recent activity in replies, which do not appear in the main timeline.

The Visa account on X has very little activity at the time this debunk was written. They posted a poll on October 18, 2024, and the most recent public reply to a customer was on September 14, 2024.

The management style of the Etsy X account shifted dramatically after November 14, 2023, one year before the post claiming Etsy stopped, when the last post featuring a photo of a handmade item was posted. In the time since, photos have not been posted but the account has been used to reply to feedback -- both on the main timeline, last on October 16, 2024, and using the reply feature to continue to answer questions, as of the time of writing on November 15, 2024.

Adobe pinned a post to the top of their timeline on October 16, 2024. The account is not very active and last used the reply function to answer a customer's question on November 11, 2024. Seventeen days before that they answered someone else, and 12 days before that they answered someone.

Android reposted congratulations to the McLaren Formula 1 racers in the Sao Paulo Grand Prix on November 2, 2024, and was posting replies to customers as recently as November 10, 2024.

Lady Gaga posted a video on November 13, 2024.

Taylor Swift posted a promotion for a collector's book on the Eras tour on October 15, 2024. On November 4, 2024, a post with photos from a concert in Indianapolis was posted on Instagram, but not on X. Swift has a much larger following on Instagram, 283 million followers, compared to 94.7 million on X.

Mastercard has only made 10 posts on the main timeline in the past year. The most recent was on October 22, 2024, when they reposted a promotion for playoff tickets to a soccer match. The account does post regular responses to customers using the reply function, most recently on November 12, 2024.

On November 14, 2024, McDonald's posted a McCafé x Doodles Holiday cup promotion (archived here) and also posted a reply to a customer (archived here) at the time of writing.

Since 2022 CVS Pharmacy does not appear to have used the account to regularly post promotions. There was a November 13, 2022, post about flu shots. At the time this debunk was written, the account was mainly used to respond to customer questions, but most questions are answered through the account replies on a daily basis. The last post on the main timeline (archived here) was a reply to a May 14, 2024 question. One response (archived here) through the account replies was posted at the time of writing.

Home Depot posted a tool promotion on November 15, 2025.

Walmart posted a Christmas brick building set promotion on November 12, 2024, and was actively posting replies to customers at the time of writing.

The postings of these accounts have variable frequency, and none of the accounts shows an abrupt or uncharacteristic lack of posting.
