Fact Check: Prosecutors Fani Willis And Alvin Bragg Have NOT Been Disbarred Still Licensed

Have prosecutors Fani Willis and Alvin Bragg been disbarred from the practice of law after a "bombshell" Trump announcement? No, that's not true: Both the Fulton County, Georgia and New York County district attorneys are still licensed in their respective states and no record of disbarment is online. The post making the claim offered no evidence of disciplinary action against Willis or Bragg.

The claim appeared in a video (archived here) published on TikTok and Facebook on February 27, 2025 along with a video clip from a congressional hearing that referenced Willis and Bragg's prosecution of Trump. The post read:

DA Fani Willis and Alvin Bragg DISBARRED & CHARGED After Trump Drops BOMBSHELL Announcement

This is what the post looked like on Facebook at the time of writing:

The Facebook version is a copy of a video post on a Marvel Captain America TikTok fan account (view here.)

The video clip does not make the claim that Willis and Bragg have been disciplined by their respective state bar associations or court. It shows Rep. Van Drew, a New Jersey Republican, speaking at the House subcommittee hearing titled "Entering the Golden Age: Ending the Weaponization of the Justice Department" on February 25, 2025. This is the full video:

Lead Stories could find no evidence that Willis -- who prosecuted Donald Trump in Georgia -- or Alvin Bragg -- who successfully prosecuted Trump in New York -- have faced any disciplinary action, including disbarment. A judge did remove Willis from the Trump case over an "appearance of impropriety" because of a romantic relationship with another prosecutor, a decision she is appealing.

Willis and Bragg are still active as district attorneys for their respective counties.

New York and Georgia both make it easy for anyone to search the database of lawyer disciplinary actions. Bragg's report shows "No record of discipline" and that he is still active.

The State Bar of Georgia website also shows no disciplinary actions against Willis and she is active.
