Does a viral video showing wedding scenes where various little girls are being married to older men authentically show muslim child marriages as social media posts are claiming? No, that's not true: The viral footage originated on an Instagram account that posts AI generated videos. Several detection tools found evidence the video was generated using artificial intelligence.
The video has been making the rounds on various social networks with various captions and overlays added to obscure the watermark but the original (archived here) appeared on an Instagram account named @Imagitherapy on March 5, 2025 with a caption that read:
According to Sahih Bukhari 5133, Muhammad married Aisha when she was just 6 years of age and consummated the marriage as soon as she turned 9 !
Imam Sadegh also said that an adult man can marry and have intercourse with a 9-year-old girl. (Wasa'il al-Shia, vol. 20, page 101)
Child marriage is an abhorrent medieval Islamic tradition that needs to end.

This is the video in question:
The account posts various images and videos that often put people in traditional muslim garb in unusual situations but also footage more commonly associated with AI footage such as weird creatures, strange situations or Santa Claus doing unusual things.

AI detection tool DeepFake-o-meter from the University at Buffalo's Media Forensic Lab returned results that indicated it was quite likely the video was generated using AI.

Hive Moderation, another AI detection tool, found that the video is 99% "likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content," as shown in the screenshot of the results below:

The video also contained several artifacts that point to the conclusion it was artificially generated, such as the weird hands:
