Fact Check: AI-Generated Image Shows Women And Children Crying On Demand For A Cameraman -- Not Actual Palestinians In Gaza AI Image

Does an image authentically show (presumably) Palestinian women and children crying on demand for a cameraman wearing a green on white headband with Arabic lettering on it? No, that's not true: The scene, which also contained rubble and a boom microphone, was AI-generated according to at least two detection tools. It also contained telltale signs of AI such as weird hands and extra limbs on some people in the scene.

The image appeared in a post on X (archived here) published on May 15 with a caption that read:

They Are Masters To Play Victim Card.

This is the image in question:

AI detection tool Hive said it was 99.9% likely the image contained AI-generated or deepfake content.

AI detection tool Sightengine also concluded that the image was "Likely AI-generated" and gave it a score of 99%:

Several clues in the image also revealed it was generated using AI, for example the fact that the lens of the camera was not actually aimed at the scene, a boy whose hand seemed to grow from the edge of his sleeve, oddly shaped hands with bent or extra fingers and an extra leg that didn't seem to belong to any of the people in the group.
