Fact Check: Dollar General Did NOT Post Sign Saying Self-Checkout Is Closed 'Due To N-----s' No N-Word

Did a Dollar General Store post a sign saying a self-checkout station was closed "Due to Niggers"? No, that's not true: The actual sign shared on X by Jack Posobiec on May 15, 2025, read "Due to Dishonesty," but hours later another account posted a digitally-altered image that replaced "Dishonesty" with the N-word. The sign photo was originally published on X in January 2024, just before Dollar General confirmed it was ending the use self-checkout stations at several hundred U.S. stores because of theft.

The claim appeared in a post (archived here) shared on X by @Real_Comfyfren on May 15, 2025. The caption above the image read "We need to start telling it how it is." The altered sign read:

Due to Niggers self-checkout is CLOSED
Sorry to all the honest people

The @Real_Comfyfren acknowledged in the thread below the post that it was fake, writing "Yes i made it but its meant to be obviously fake."

The U.S. edition of The Sun newspaper of Britain published a story about the Dollar General sign in January 2024, but the article did not identify the store's location.
