Fact Check: Iraqi Woman Who Bragged About Using Sweden's Benefits 'To The Max' Says She Was Being Sarcastic In Video Out Of Context

Is a video of an Iraqi woman saying in Swedish that she used the Swedish welfare system "to the max" real? Yes, it is: Tara Sabah Mohammed Saleh said she was being sarcastic during a TikTok Live stream in reaction to racist social media comments that told her "to go home." A Swedish news report called her a pro-Palestinian activist who has made "provocative statements against Sweden on social media."

The video appeared in a post (archived here) shared by the ragingeuropeans Instagram account on July 15, 2025. The video shows a woman wearing a hijab speaking in Swedish. The English subtitles read:

I don't belong here. I have not told you I belong here. That's why I destory (sic) and take so much I can and collect all your tax money, all benefits that you can get here in Sweden. I use it to the max, to the max -- and you can't do anything about it.

This is what the thumbnail from the video looked like on Instagram at the time of writing:

Lead Stories has identified the woman in the video as Tara Sabah Mohammed Saleh, also referred to as Tara Sabah or Tara Saleh. She is known as a Sweden-based pro-Palestinian activist (archived here).

She told Lead Stories via Facebook Messenger on November 29, 2025:

This is from my TikTok live broadcast last year. I was responding sarcastic to racist comments that read: You have no country. Go home! You don't belong here.

She also shared a longer version of the video (archived here).

The Swedish text in the red banner at the top of the video reads in English:

When you think you can intimidate and silence Tara by shaming her on social media.

In the video, the woman said in Swedish:

Du har inget land. Nej, exakt.

The English translation reads:

You have no country. No, exactly. If you don't have a country, you don't have borders. That means no one can stop me. Do you understand that?

Nothing can stop me. I'm going to make your lives hell. I don't belong here. Did I tell you that I belong here?

That's why I destroy. And disrupt as much as I can. And take advantage of your tax money. Of all the benefits you can have here as a Swedish citizen. I take full advantage of it.

I take full advantage of it. And you can't even do anything about it.

A Swedish media report (archived here) about Tara Sabah said her controversial statements have made her "the holy grail of Swedish nationalists." That story also quoted her as saying some of her comments were meant to be sarcasm.
