Fact Check: FAKE MSNBC Report Identifies White House Correspondents' Dinner Shooting Suspect As 'Kohl Jackson' With Photo Not MSNBC

Does a real MSNBC report identify the suspect in the White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting as "Kohl Jackson" with a picture? No, that's not true: The post is not authentic. MSNBC no longer exists; it was officially rebranded as MS NOW on Nov. 15, 2025, as part of a spin-off from NBCUniversal. Multiple news outlets identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen.

The claim appeared in a post (archived here) by the Roy Rogers account on Facebook on Apr. 25, 2026. It read:

🚨BREAKING: White House Correspondents Dinner Shooter Identified

The suspect has been identified as 'Kohl Jackson'. He survived the gunfire and is now in custody.

Details on the incident remain limited as the investigation continues.

President Trump and attendees were safely evacuated. More updates to follow.

The old MSNBC account on X is no longer active. An example of the current account on Apr. 25, 2026, under the MS NOW (@MSNOWNews) moniker (archived here), appears below:

MSNBC changed its name to MS NOW (archived here), standing for My Source for News, Opinion and the World, on November 15, 2025, after it split from NBCUniversal into a new company called Versant. The NBC peacock logo and branding were removed, but the shows and on-air personalities stayed the same.

The suspect in the shooting was identified as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old from Torrance, California, according to two law enforcement officials who spoke to the Associated Press (archived here). Trump described the suspect as a "sick person."
