Fact Check: Image Does NOT Show Real Bus Turned Into Mobile Grocery Store In Denmark AI Image

Does a viral image show a real bus converted into a mobile grocery store in contemporary Denmark? No, that's not true: The image was a product of generative AI. Contrary to viral posts, mobile grocery stores are not a recent invention -- they have been in use in Europe at least since 1956.

The claim appeared in a post (archived here) published on X on May 5, 2026. The caption read:

What a great idea! could this have any utility in the UK?🤔

The text in the attached image continued:

TO KNOW
In Denmark, old buses have been transformed into mobile grocery stores to bring fresh products to elderly people in rural areas.

This is what that picture looked like on X at the time of writing:

The image has been online at least since December 7, 2025 (archived here).

AI detection tool Hive Moderation said it was 92.3% likely that the picture in question was generated using AI:

AI detection tool Sightengine concluded there was an 89% chance the image was AI-generated:

The picture showed artifacts pointing to AI, too. The face of the woman behind the counter appears disproportionate and that her hands lack clearly defined fingers:

The man in a black hat, seen standing outside the bus, is missing his right hand entirely:

Furthermore, the bike parked behind the bus has two baskets on both ends and no seat in the middle:

The open shelves holding grocery items also appear impractical, as nothing seems to prevent the products from falling as the bus moves.

In 2026, the use of mobile grocery stores was not a brand-new concept for Europe. While a search across Google News for the keywords seen here (archived here) did not show any credible news reports about such recent projects in Denmark, the single result (archived here) it produced, discussed a similar initiative the U.K. launched in 2020. Other countries implemented mobile grocery stores, too. For example, they were used in rural France in 2023 (archived here) and in Belgium in 1956 (archived here).
