Fact Check: James Woods Did Not Call President Trump The 'Most Treacherous And Truly Worthless Republican Leader In The History Of The Party' -- He Was Referring To Senate Majority Leader John Thune Diff GOP Guy

Did actor James Woods call President Donald Trump the "most treacherous and truly worthless Republican leader in the history of the party" in May 2026? No, that's not true: The quote never mentions Trump. King's caption adds that context without it being present in Woods' original post. The social media post links to a video from Senate Majority Leader John Thune, a Republican from South Dakota.

The claim appeared in a post (archived here) by author Stephen King on X on May 21, 2026. He wrote:

Woods finally has seen the light. He's talking about Trump.

King's repost omits key context -- it does not show the video linked in the original post. The post by Woods (archived here) on May 20, 2026, also includes a repost of a video (archived here) by Thune giving a GOP status report on the first 500 days of the Republican-majority Senate on May 19, 2026.

In this context, with the video showing, Woods is referring to Thune, not President Trump.
