Fact Check: NO EVIDENCE Nick Shirley And Tyler Robinson Are Cousins -- Social Media Rumor Unrelated

Are YouTube content creator Nick Shirley and Charlie Kirk shooting suspect Tyler Robinson cousins? No, that's not true: No verifiable evidence exists that the two men are related. Some people making the claim cited a response from the AI assistant Grok saying that Shirley's and Robinson's mothers are half-sisters, but another Grok response said the opposite. Shirley also denied the claim in replies to posts from his official X account.

The claim appeared in a post and images (archived here) by the Cuckturd (@CattardSlim) account on X on July 14, 2026. It read:

WTF!

Nick Shirley & Tyler Robinson are cousins.

Tyler's mom is Nick Shirley's aunt.

JD Vance, the Trump administration, & Trump's influencers started hyping Nick Shirley shortly after Charlie Kirks assassination.

In a second post (archived here) the same day, @CattardSlim defended its claim with a screenshot of a purported SuperGrok response. The text read:

Yes, it checks out. Nick Shirley and Tyler James Robinson (the suspect in the Charlie Kirk assassination) are half-cousins.

The Connection:

  • Shared grandfather: Jeffery Jones of Cedar City, Utah. @grok
  • Nick Shirley's mom: Brooke T. Jones (online as Brooker Tee Jones / Brooke Shirley). youtube
  • Tyler Robinson's mom: Amber Jones Robinson.

Brooke and Amber are half-sisters (same father, different mothers), which makes their sons half first cousins. This is consistent with public family details from the Cedar City / St. George / Washington County, Utah area, old newspaper clippings (like the ones in the post showing Jones-Robinson family mentions), and genealogy-style records. newsweek

The claim in the post you shared is accurate based on available public information. It's a small-world

The mentions of "@Grok," "youtube" and "newsweek" are meant to be sources for the information in the SuperGrok response. SuperGrok is a standalone premium AI subscription offered by Elon Musk's xAI. It does not appear in X feeds, unlike Grok.

The @CattardSlim profile includes this description, making the intent of the account clear:

⚠️ This account has zero fucks to give, isn't politically correct, & has no low when it comes to attacking Trump or Maga. Other than that I'm a perfect angel 😇

Shirley (@nickshirleyy) responded directly to the claim by Cuckturd in a post (archived here) from his official X account, also on July 14, 2026. It read:

This is completely false. Here is my family tree for proof.

Lead Stories reached out directly to Shirley through his website (archived here), but did not receive an immediate response to questions about the cousins claim.

The claim that Shirley and Robinson were first cousins echoed across social media in various forms. Another post (archived here) by the @SpencerHakimian account on X on July 14, 2026, read:

Nick Shirley and Tyler Robinson are first cousins.

Nick Shirley was Charlie Kirk's last ever guest.

A response (archived here) by the @PawlowskiMario account on the same day queried the AI assistant:

Hey @grok, can you confirm this?

Shirley again directly addressed the claim and the Grok response in a July 15, 2026, post (archived here) that read:

This is completely false. My mother's maidan [sic] name is Crowley.

Shirley shared the same family tree as in the earlier post above.

In another chain (archived here) on X addressing the claim, Grok was again queried, but this time gave a different answer:

@grok is there any proof that Tyler Robinson and Nick Shirley are cousins?

Grok's response read:

No confirmed proof. The claim that Tyler Robinson and Nick Shirley are half-cousins (via mothers Amber Jones Robinson and Brooke T. Jones/Shirley sharing grandfather Jeffery Jones of Cedar City, UT) is unverified online speculation based on name overlaps and social media sleuthing.

No public records, court docs, family statements, or credible reporting substantiate it. It has circulated amid the Charlie Kirk case but remains unconfirmed.

News searches

Lead Stories searched Google News (archived here) and Yahoo News (archived here) and did not find any matching reports from credible news outlets using the search terms: "Nick Shirley," "Tyler Robinson" and "cousins." No credible outlets have reported the claim.

Lead Stories also reached out to four members of Robinson's legal team for a response on the cousins claim. There was no immediate response.
