A University of North Texas student who allegedly smashed car windshields with an ax was shot and killed by a campus police officer who he "advanced on," according to investigators Sunday.
Ryan McMillan, a sophomore majoring in hospitality, has just celebrated his 21st birthday, according to the North Texas Daily newspaper.
"He seemed like a really cool person, really down to earth," a student who new McMillan told the newspaper. "He was the last person I would think to do that, at least from the vibes I got from him."
The paper tweeted a video reportedly showing McMillan walking through a parking lot with an ax just before he was shot and killed.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the police shooting of the student, a Ft. Worth native. A statement from police said the student was white.
