Photos: Ecuador Cops Save Sloth from Highway

  • by: Lead Stories Staff

Police in Ecuador last week dealt with an unusual but cute situation when they helped this little sloth from a dangerous highway.

According to the police, a Transit officer noticed the "lazy bear" holding onto a guard rail after struggling to cross the busy highway. The sloth was taken to a vet to be looked at before being released back into his natural habitat.

In response to the outpouring of support for the little sloth, the transit commission released this statement on Facebook (translated from Spanish):

"Dear, we are grateful for all your concern. Be advised, the sloth bear rescued by our unit was reviewed by a veterinarian, the same one that determined that it was in optimal condition to be returning to its habitat. We are grateful to all those people who were interested in the health of the animal. We will continue to support these kind of cases along with the collaboration of citizenship. Greetings to all."

Another happy tale of an animal being saved. Great job, Comisión de Tránsito del Ecuador!
