Did U.S. President Donald Trump, in a Truth Social post, bemoan what he described as "disrespect" from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi? No, that's not true: A widely-shared screenshot which appeared to show such a message was, in fact, fake. A search of the president's TruthSocial account, and news archives, yielded no record of his having written those words.
The fake post appeared in an August 1, 2025, post on Threads (archived here) which consisted of a screenshot of the post and the following introductory caption:
now he is behaving like my ex
The text of the embedded screenshot itself read:
So hard to believe that Prime Minister Modi STILL hasn't responded to my tweets, statements, or tariff concerns. We gave India so much -- great deals, defense support, big crowds -- and yet, TOTAL SILENCE. Not even a thank you!
Don't forget -- I'm the one who got India and Pakistan to declare a ceasefire. Nobody else could do that. MANY people said I should've gotten the Nobel Prize for it!!
India continues to benefit while American workers suffer. I've always liked Modi, but this kind of disrespect will NOT be forgotten. Bad for business. Bad for friendship. #AmericaFirst
This is what it looked like at the time of writing:

Trump never posted that.
An August 1 scan of his TruthSocial account (archived here) showed no posts matching the one shown in the screenshot. Furthermore, the archive TrumpsTruth.org contained no trace (archived here) of a TruthSocial post by Trump containing the words "Modi" and "friendship".
Searches on Google (archived here) and Bing (archived here) for the words "Modi" and "friendship", limited to links containing "truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump" (using the "site:" search operator) returned no results either. This indicates that Google and Bing didn't recently index such a post.
If Trump had published such a post, it would undoubtedly have formed the basis of widespread news coverage. Google News and Yahoo! News searches (archived here and here) both yielded no relevant results for the phrases "Trump", "Modi", and "bad for friendship", further underlining the fabricated nature of the post.
