1980 Reagan-Bush Debate Video: Give Mexican Immigrants Work Permits & No Border Fence

  • by: Alan Duke

What Would Ronald Reagan Do? Video from a 1980 debate between presidential candidates Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush show the 2016 GOP candidates are far different on the matter of illegal immigration and Mexico border security.

Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush agreed when a questioner asked them if the children of illegal immigrants should be allowed to attend public schools in the United States. Yes, they both answered.

Reagan went even further. "Make it possible for them to come here legally with a work permit and then while they're working and earning here, they pay taxes, and when they want to go back they can go back."

The Reagan and Bush positions of 36 years ago are a sharp contrast to the huge wall GOP frontrunner Donald Trump vows to build if elected president.
