More Trump Per Tweet! Twitter Will Stop Counting Links & Photos In 140-Character Limit

  • by: Alan Duke

Just in time for Donald Trump's next tirade, Twitter is giving tweeters more room to speak. The social network will soon stop counting URL links, photos and videos in the 140-character limit per tweet. Until now, those elements took up to 23 of the characters.

This means Donald Trump, whose presidential campaign seems built around tweeting, can fit in more attacks against his target of the moment in each tweet.

The 140 limit was initially imposed because that was the character limit in phone text messages in 2006. Twitter has been searching for ways to encourage more tweeting as its subscriber base has lagged compared to Facebook, SnapChat, Instagram and other social nets in the past year.

Twitter floated the idea of raising the character limit to 10,000, but the Twitterverse quickly shot down that balloon.
