Remains of A Whale NOT Found In Utah Field

Fact Check

  • by: Jeremy Smith

Here's a whale of a tale for you. A fake story that originated in 2014 about a whale being found in a Utah field is making the rounds on the internet once again. The story comes from a known satire site but people aren't always aware of that. It's purpose seems to be to stir up global warming chatter.

The story states:

A dairy farmer from a small town near the Great Salt Lake in Utah, made an incredible discovery on his property while he was looking for one of his cows that had not returned. 69-year old Michael Woodson, found a 12 meter long humpback whale laying lifeless in the middle of one of his fields, hundreds of kilometers away its natural habitat.

The United States does not use the metric system. The FAKE story continues:

A few witnesses have reported seeing some strange flying object in the area over the last two days and the authorities have confirmed that the 911 operators have received a few dozen calls from all over the region reporting such sightings, but they refuse to link both events for the moment. "We are verifying every clue and information that we have, and I assure you that we will explore every other possibility before we conclude that a UFO has anything to do with the case" added Captain Dawson.

The picture is not a photoshop job, it actually comes from a real 2011 story from across the pond. Titled "Mystery as beached whale found in field in Yorkshire - A young whale which died after it beached in the Humber Estuary is probably of a species rarely found stranded on the British coast, conservationists have said. "
