Fact Check: Disneyland Is NOT Moving To Texas Disney Satire

Is Disneyland leaving California and moving to Texas? No, that's not true: This is a satirical claim. The Mouse House is not abandoning its home state for the Lone Star State.

The claim originated from an article (archived here) where it was published by the satire website, "Uncle Walt's Insider" on August 31, 2020 with the title "BREAKING: Disneyland is abandoning California, moving to Texas." It opened:

ANAHEIM, CA -- Saying they've "finally had enough" and the state is "just nuts," Disneyland officials have announced that the park is leaving California.

The website's header makes it clear that the content is satirical. The subheader underneath the website's title reads, "MAGICAL FAKE NEWS." Screen Shot 2020-09-09 at 8.55.24 AM.png

Like many other satire articles that go viral on social media, this article plays to conservative's beliefs:

Various reasons have been given for the mass exodus, but most common are the high cost of living, the overreaching liberal government, or that the state is "just nuts."

The article closed with this crossed out giveaway:

Uncle Walt's Insider will of course be the first to let you know Disneyland's new Texas location, just as soon as we make it up learn it ourselves.
