Fact Check: NO Evidence Trump Called Selena Gomez 'Third Amigo' In Truth Social Post Fake Post

Did President Donald Trump call actress Selena Gomez "the third amigo" in a Truth Social post? No, that's not true: There was no such post on the social media platform Truth Social. A search of Google News brought up no news reports confirming the post ever existed and in fact showed several articles that explained it was fake.

The claim appeared in a post on X (archived here) on January 27, 2025. The screenshot of the supposed Trump post read, in part:

Actress Selena Gomez, best known as the third amigo on that murder mystery show Chevy Chase wouldn't touch, posted a video to social media where she was in tears over the deportations.

This is what the post looked like at the time of writing:

The post on X did not offer any evidence, like a link to the purported post, to back up the implied claim that that post was real.

The video the post is referring to, however, is real. The now-deleted Instagram story (archived here) showed Gomez tearfully addressing the deportations and raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement that the administration was carrying out at the time of writing.

Searching Truth Social for this post, Lead Stories found nothing that would substantiate this claim (archived here). Evidence of this is below:

A Google News search of reputable media outlets did not find reporting on the purported Truth Social post (archived here) either. What did appear were articles debunking the claim, not confirming it.

Lead Stories reached out to Trump's press secretary and will update this article when a relevant response is received.
