President Obama ordered rainbow colored lights to illuminate the White House Friday night in observance of the Supreme Court decision earlier in the day that made same-sex marriage the law of the land across the United States.
"Tonight, the White House was lit to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to progress and equality, here in America and around the world," a White House spokesman said. "The pride colors reflect the diversity of the LGBT community, and tonight, these colors celebrate a new chapter in the history of American civil rights."
The president's official Twitter account also marked the occasion: Today is a big step in our march toward equality. Gay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else. #LoveWins"
