New Vaccine Proves 100% Effective Against Ebola

  • by: Alan Duke

A new vaccine has proven 100% successful against the Ebola virus in trials involving 4,000 people in Guinea, according to medical experts. The rapid development of the vaccine offers new hope of stemming the deadly epidemic in west Africa.

"Having seen the devastating effects of Ebola on communities and even whole countries with my own eyes, I am very encouraged by today's news," Norway's Foreign Minister Børge Brende told reporters. The vaccine may be "the silver bullet" that stops the current outbreak, he said.

Nearly 28,000 people have fallen ill from the virus in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone and 11,000 of them died in the outbreak. But only seven patients were being treated as of July 27, 2015.
