Fact Check: Video Does NOT Show People In Netherlands Celebrating Attacks On Israeli Soccer Fans In Amsterdam Old Footage

Does video of people chanting and clapping show Netherlands residents celebrating the attacks on Israeli soccer fans in Amsterdam in early November 2024? No, that's not true: The video predates the violence by several months. It is of a different event and was shared on social media in May 2024.

The claim was implied in a post (archived here) on X on November 9, 2024. It included the video. The caption read:

The Dutch celebrate after teaching the Israelis a lesson they will never forget.

This is what the post looked like on X at the time of writing:

The video in the post was published on social media in May 2024, as can be seen here (archived here). It was posted by Palestinian photojournalist Motaz Azaiza, who thanked attendees of an event. Azaiza's post read:

Thanks for everyone who attended the @worldpressphoto event today.

Thank you for being the power I use to continue.

Because the footage was recorded and posted prior to November 2024, it could not possibly show people celebrating the attacks on Israeli soccer fans that took place in Amsterdam in the early part of that month.
