Fact Check: Fake Screenshot Of Trump Posting He Won't Release Epstein Files To Protect Bill Clinton Originated On Satire Page Satire

Is this a real screenshot of a Truth Social post from President Trump where he says he won't release the Epstein files in order to protect Bill Clinton? No, that's not true: The viral image originated on a Facebook account with a satire disclaimer and did not actually show Trump's Truth Social handle. It contained several hints that were hard to see on a phone screen such as the fake handle, a "dislikes" count and a "satire" instead of a "like" button.

The image appeared in a Facebook post (archived here) where it was published on August 25, 2025 with a caption that read "That's right I am not releasing the Epstein files because I want to protect Bill Clinton." The text inside the image read:

We are not going to release the Epstein files because I want to protect a lot of innocent people in there like BILL CLINTON. Now that you know the real reason I am sure no one will ever ask to see the Epstein files again, which include physical evidence taken from his properties, digital information and victim testimonies, NO ONE WILL EVER ASK FOR THE FILES AGAIN. THIS IS A DEMOCRAT HOAX. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

This is what the image in the post looked like on Facebook at the time of writing:

The handle in the screenshot was not Trump's actual Truth Social handle @realDonaldTrump but was shown as "@realDotardTrump".

The screenshot went viral and was reposted to other platforms but still had the "@Mrs.Putin" watermark, making it possible to trace back the origin.

Mrs. Putin

The Facebook page that published the story (archived here) had a bio that read:

A fictional character based on a selfish crook who inadvertently found wealth and power. ** This page publishes hateful and stupid messages it recieves.

Along with that the page also had a "Satire/parody" label.

The "Mrs. Putin" Facebook page posted several other satirical faked screenshots in the past, which Lead Stories investigated at the time here and here.
