Did Kuwait declare war on Iran? No, that's not true: There is no evidence that Kuwait made any such declaration; however, it did declare force majeure due to the Middle East conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. By doing so, Kuwait is legally suspending, delaying, or canceling oil and gas shipments due to events beyond its control, protecting it from breach of contract for delivery delays.

Lead Stories searched Google News (archived here) and Yahoo! News (archived here) and did not find any matching reports for Kuwait declaring war on Iran for March 2026. Such a declaration would have been widely covered.
However, reports did show that Kuwait declared force majeure (archived here) on March 7, 2026 -- specifically citing regional insecurity affecting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz -- which shields it from breach of contract claims for delivery delays stemming from the war. About 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas passes through the strait.
Kuwait's force majeure declaration is a legal and commercial measure, not a declaration of war.
