Fact Check: Vladimir Putin Did NOT Reveal 'The West Is Controlled By Satanic Pedophiles' Old Falsehoods

Did Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, reveal that "the West is controlled by Satanic pedophiles"? No, that's not true: Putin never made this statement nor did he use the phrase "Satanic pedophiles."

The claim appeared in an article (archived here) where it was published by "www.social-consciousness.com" on July 18, 2017, under the title "Vladimir Putin Reveals: The West Is Controlled By Satanic Pedophiles." It opened:

Russian President Vladimir Putin has spoken out against the epidemic of pedophile networks that have taken over the United States, UK, and other Western nations. Despite his recent successful unity with President Trump, he remains firm on his original stance that culture in the West is being manipulated by "Satanic pedophiles".

This article is largely based on a video (embedded in the article) of a 2013 speech made by Putin. Nowhere in the video does the Russian president claim that the West is controlled by "Satanic pedophiles" or even use the phrase "Satanic pedophiles" the article (mis)quotes.

The three-year-old article, with its distortion of a now-seven-year-old speech, has made a resurgence recently on social media platforms.

The video in the article was posted by the YouTube channel "Living Resistance" in 2017. The video Living Resistance posted is a clip of Putin's speech at the 2013 Valdai International Discussion Club, a forum that gathers foreign Russia experts with top Russian officials, politicians, journalists and academics. The closest Putin gets to saying that the West is run by "Satanic pedophiles" can be found in the Kremlin's official version of his translated speech:

Another serious challenge to Russia's identity is linked to events taking place in the world. Here there are both foreign policy and moral aspects. We can see how many of the Euro-Atlantic countries are actually rejecting their roots, including the Christian values that constitute the basis of Western civilisation. They are denying moral principles and all traditional identities: national, cultural, religious and even sexual. They are implementing policies that equate large families with same-sex partnerships, belief in God with the belief in Satan.

The excesses of political correctness have reached the point where people are seriously talking about registering political parties whose aim is to promote paedophilia. People in many European countries are embarrassed or afraid to talk about their religious affiliations.

Saying that Euro-Atlantic countries are implimenting policies that equate "belief in God with the belief in Satan" and that the rise of political correctness has morphed into an effort to register "political parties whose aim is to promote paedophilia" gives social-consciousness.com no grounds to claim that Putin stated that the West is controlled by Satanic pedophiles.

Here is an official Valdai broadcast of the forum that includes his speech near the beginning:

The article continued:

Prior to his recent meeting with Donald Trump at this years G20 Summit, Putin issued a warning that if he didn't expose the Elite pedophile networks, then he would "begin naming names".

Although the article was published in 2017 and the speech was given in 2013, Putin has still never "named names" as the article claimed he said he would.
