Does a photograph shared on X (formerly Twitter) in August 2023 authentically show "computers from J6 operation," presumably the January 6, 2021, insurrection on the U.S. Capitol? No, that's not true: While the photograph appears to be unaltered, it was first shared to the platform on March 22, 2019, by DCI Kenya, the official account for the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Kenya, and showed stolen laptops that had been confiscated by the agency.
The claim originated in a post shared to X on August 13, 2023, (archived here) with a caption that read:
These are the computers from J6 operation.
We have it all.

The above photo does not show computers associated with the January 6, 2021, insurrection on the U.S. Capitol. Rather, it was one of three photographs that were published by DCI Kenya, the official account for the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Kenya, on March 22, 2019 (archived here).
A caption that accompanied the original photo read:
Yesterday, Serious Crime Detectives recovered several assorted Laptops from a shop at Kimathi House. This was after a stolen Mac book was traced to the shop. One suspect arrested. We appeal to members of public who may have lost items to come to OIC #SeriousCrimeUnit & identify.

Lead Stories has debunked a number of claims regarding the January 6, 2021, insurrection.
