Fact Check: Trump Did NOT Say 'I Don't Care' About Economy -- Response To Hannity Saying He Was Running Out Of Time For Show Wrong Topic

Does a video show President Donald Trump saying "I don't care" about the economy in an interview with Fox News? No, that's not true: Trump's response of "I don't care" to Sean Hannity was not about the economy, he was saying it didn't matter to him that the TV host was running out of time and wanted to change the topic. Hannity tried to change the subject to the economy by telling the president he was "running out of time," to which Trump said he did not care.

The claim appeared in a post and video (archived here) on Threads on January 22, 2025. The post had a caption that said:

Trump tells Sean Hannity 'I don't care' about the economy and that Joe Biden's pardons are more important

This is what the post looked like on Threads at the time of writing:

The video shown on Threads does not show Trump's complete remarks and is misleading about his context. Here is a transcript of what was said in the video segment posted on Threads:

Trump: Joe Biden to give pardons to everybody but him --
Hannity: Let me get to the economy
Trump: Yeah but Sean
Hannity: I'm running out of time
Trump: I don't care
Hannity: They're yelling at me over here
Trump: This is more important

A video posted on FoxNews.com (archived here) shows the full interview from January 22, 2025. At the 38:14 mark Trump is speaking about Biden and his pardons. At the 38:22 mark, Hannity comments about Biden, then says, "Let me move on to the economy." At the 38:28 mark, Trump disregards Hannity's request, saying, "I don't care." Here is a more extensive transcript of the Trump-Hannity exchange:

Trump: Joe Biden has very bad advisors. Somebody advised Joe Biden to give pardons to everybody but him --
Hannity: Let me get to the economy
Trump: Yeah but Sean
Hannity: I'm running out of time
Trump: I don't care
Hannity: They're yelling at me over here
Trump: This is more important because right now the economy is gonna do great ...
