Fact Check: NO Evidence Elizabeth Warren Quote About Constitutional Right to See What Happens With Tax Dollars Is Real No Source

Is there evidence Senator Elizabeth Warren said "There is nothing in the constitution that says ordinary Americans have a right to see what we're spending tax dollars on." on January 30, 2025? No, that's not true: A review of news sites, the website of the U.S. Senate and Warren's social media turned up no evidence she ever said those words. A Google search for the quote only brought up four results and none of them showed Warren saying this. A spokesperson for Warren's office said it was a "fake quote."

The quote showed up in an image in a post on X (archived here) published on February 7, 2025 with a comment that read:

Lead Stories searched for posts made between January 25, 2025 and February 7, 2025 containing the word "constitution" on the official Senate X account of Warren and did not find any matching posts (archived here). The same was true of her personal X account (archived here)

A search of Google News for stories mentioning "Warren", "constitution" and "tax dollars" (archived here) brought up just one result that was older than January 30, 2025, a New York Times page (archived here) that did not mention the quote or Elizabeth Warren.

A search of Google for the full quote "There is nothing in the constitution that says ordinary Americans have a right to see what we're spending tax dollars on" only brought up four results (archived here), none of which showed Warren saying the quote.

A search of the website of the U.S. Senate for the quote turned up zero results (archived here)

A search of Warren's senate office website for the phrases "constitution" and "tax dollars" only brought up four results (archived here), none of them from 2025 or mentioning the quote.

Lead Stories reached out to Senator Warren's office by email. A spokesperson confirmed it was a fake quote.
