Fact Check: Hellmann's Mayonnaise NOT Being Discontinued In The United States, Canada And Most Other Countries S. Africa Only

Is Hellmann's mayonnaise being discontinued in the United States, Canada and other countries around the globe? No, that's not true: Hellmann's will not be available for sale in South Africa, but there is no change in any other country, a spokeswoman for Hellmann's told Lead Stories.

The claim appeared in a Facebook post (archived here) published January 30, 2023. It read:

Rumor has it Hellmann's Mayo is being discontinued. If true, I've got some egg salad I can sell ya for $500 βœ…οΈ -Heather

This is what the post looked like on Facebook at the time of writing:

Lead Stories reached out to Hellmann's to ask if the claim is true. It's not.

In an email, dated February 1, 2023, Tara Loveland, a spokeswoman for Hellmann's, wrote that the only change is that Hellmann's will not be available for sale in South Africa until further notice. She cited increased import costs as the reason behind the move. By contrast, in the United States, Canada and elsewhere, there is no change, according to Loveland. Hellmann's is not discontinued.
