Fact Check: Video Does NOT Show 2023 Pro-Palestine March In Chicago In Response To Hamas-Israel Conflict -- It's Footage From March In 2021 Fact Check: Video Does NOT Show 2023 Pro-Palestine March In Chicago In Response To Hamas-Israel Conflict -- It's Footage From March In 2021 May 2021

Does a video show Americans marching in solidarity with Palestinians in Chicago to protest against the Hamas-Israel conflict in October 2023? No, that's not true: The footage is from a May 2021 protest in Chicago about the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. It is not a video of marchers displaying support for Palestinians after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023.

The claim appeared in a video on TikTok (archived here) on October 9, 2023. Text that overlaid a video of a large group of protesters said:

Pro Palestine March in Chicago..THIS IS GETTING REAL AMERICA!!

This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing:

A rally and march did take place in Chicago on October 8, 2023, in support of Palestinians. However, the video in the post on TikTok does not depict this march, with the march in the video happening more than two years earlier.

The video was taken from a May 17, 2021, Facebook reel that was posted on the account of AMU Citizens, part of Aligarh Muslim University in India.

NBC Chicago and the Chicago Tribune reported on the march on May 16, 2021.
