The controversy over transgender people entering bathrooms designated for women inspired this fake story about GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz. It was published on a self-described political satire site, but the story has gone viral on Facebook and many people appear to think it is true. It is not.
The incident purportedly happened when Cruz was stopped "on his way to relieve himself" at "Big Rita's" restaurant while campaigning in Delaware.
The Free World Post quotes the fictional restaurant's manager Tess Whimble:
"I just didn't like the way he carried himself. And with the nation's history of perverted Republicans and their continued misconduct in restrooms nationwide, I couldn't chance it. He's clearly too creepy to enter. If something bad would've happened, I just couldn't live with myself."
Cruz has been outspoken in support of North Carolina's new law which bans people from entering public restrooms that are designated for a gender other than what is on their both certificate. He has criticized Donald Trump for suggesting the law was unnecessary.
