Fact Check: John Travolta Did NOT Promote Hair Growth Product 'RenewHair-X' -- Video Of Him Has Been Dubbed Over Fake Promo

Did actor John Travolta promote a hair growth product called RenewHair-X in a video on social media? No, that's not true: An audio track of a voice sounding like Travolta's is dubbed over a clip of the actor from a late-night talk show appearance. The audio purportedly spoken by Travolta repeats word-for-word audio purporting to be actor Kevin Costner in a separate promo for the same product. Lead Stories already debunked the faux Costner version of the promo.

The Travolta claim appeared on Facebook (archived here) on December 19, 2023. The caption read:

👨‍🦰Travolta used to have severe hair loss and now he's regrowing his hair. We Interviewed Him & Uncovered The Secret! It's Actually Easier Than We Think!🤫❤️ Read More 👉https://www.takelightbuy.com/.../review-renewhairxxspro...

This is what the post looked like on Facebook at the time of writing:

Lead Stories wrote a similar fact check about a false claim that the actor Kevin Costner promoted RenewHair-X on December 5, 2023. In both the Costner and Travolta videos, audio supposedly from the two celebrities has them saying exactly the same words, with only the mention of a year being different:

Costner: Back in 2008, I was seriously losing my hair ... Then this year I stumbled upon RenewHair-X and, well, I started applying it every night, massaging it in to get the blood flowing and would you believe it? My hair started to grow back. It really did. So much so that there's been talk, rumors really, that I got a hair transplant or something.

Travolta: Back in 2019, I was seriously losing my hair ... Then this year I stumbled upon RenewHair-X and, well, I started applying it every night, massaging it in to get the blood flowing and would you believe it? My hair started to grow back. It really did. So much so that there's been talk, rumors really, that I got a hair transplant or something.

Travolta has not publicly promoted RenewHair-X (archived Google News search here). Like in the Costner version, audio used in the claim featuring Travolta has been manipulated to make it sound like the actor.

Lead Stories reverse image searched (archived here) the image featured at the beginning of the Travolta video and found that it was from a "Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" clip from June 2018 (archived here). In both the talk show appearance and the fake promo, Travolta is seeing wearing the same clothes, seated before the same background, as the screenshot below shows:

In the YouTube video, Travolta does not speak about hair loss, hair growth or RenewHair-X.

Lead Stories has contacted Travolta's manager and will be updating this article if a relevant response is received.
